ANGE POSTECOGLOU believes the Turnbull red card incident was dealt with before the referee went to the monitor.
The manager was also frustrated with the time taken by the referee to check the monitor, especially after waiting several minutes when the goalkeeper was receiving treatment.
Under the belief a yellow card would’ve sufficed, Postecoglou was keen to get his frustrations across. He said: [Daily Record]
Look, two separate things. The incident, it’s hard for me to tell. I thought it was addressed at that point by the referee with the yellow card.
“You usually see a reaction from the players as to how serious or intentional it was. I don’t think it was intentional at all to be fair. It’s dealt with.
“Obviously, other people are now looking at it and making decisions. I think the goalkeeper was getting treatment for a good three or four minutes.
“I don’t know why the referee just couldn’t go over the screen there and then and do it, rather than waiting until the goalkeeper is up and running. It just took too long.”
The time taken to make decisions is extremely frustrating for everyone. Fans in the stadium are kept in the dark and unaware of what’s happening; there needs to be a rethink of it all. The screens should show what the monitor is for the sake of the fans in the stadium.
The flow of the game is broken up and stops Celtic’s intensity, allowing the opposition to flood back and regroup, catching a breath while doing so.
VAR has the potential to be good if used correctly.
