Postecoglou Believes Celtic Didn’t Miss Absent Star

ANGE POSTECOGLOU is adamant that Celtic did not miss Greek striker Giorgios Giakoumakis on Sunday.

The former VVV Venlo player was best due to illness, but he is expected to be back in time for the match against St Mirren on Wednesday.

Celtic failed to hit the back of the net at Easter Road, with only three of their shots on target. This is unusual for Postecoglou’s side. Usually, Celtic would have many shots on target and look threatening in front of the goal, which wasn’t the case at the weekend.

Maeda started, and finished, the game in the forward position. However, it was clear that the Japanese international had no joy in the Capital. Postecoglou lacked the options on the bench to change things. Bringing on the physical presence, with height, could have boosted Celtic’s chances.

Throwing many crosses into the box, they seemed to be aimless. No player could get on the end of most balls swung into the area.

In a press conference which CeltsAreHere.com attended, Postecoglou said;

“I don’t think we missed him [Giakoumakis], but he should be okay. We are hoping he will be okay for Wednesday. It is just an illness and he wasn’t right for today. With a bit of luck, he should be okay for Wednesday.

“Giorgios wasn’t going to make us play any better than we did today. We played well enough we just weren’t able to score a goal.”
