Initially appointed by Ange Postecoglou in 2021, McElhone’s exit comes following the recent arrival of new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

In his LinkedIn announcement, McElhone did not detail the reasons behind his departure, which he noted took effect in June this year. The club has not yet made any official statement confirming the news of McElhone’s exit.

During his tenure at Celtic, McElhone played a role in the side that impressively clinched five out of six domestic trophies across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. This includes a double and treble, highlighting the team’s dominance in Scottish football during that period.

McElhone’s role as the head of sports science was crucial in the club’s success over the past two years. The professional management of players’ fitness, recovery, and performance, all of which fall under the remit of sports science, have been key factors in Celtic’s success. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the club’s sports science department.

It remains to be seen who will fill the gap left by McElhone at Celtic.
