Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes has branded Celtic star Reo Hatate ‘poor’ for trying to buy a penalty during the Hoops 3-1 win at the weekend.
Reo was in behind when the referee deemed he had been fouled in the box, awarding Celtic a penalty. However, after deliberation in the VAR room, the official was asked to go over to the monitor to make sure of his decision.
After looking at the replays, the referee overturned his original decision and the penalty was rescinded.
Reo put himself in a great position inside the box and many players know when they have the defender turned, any contact more often than not results in a penalty.
After the game, McInnes blasted Reo. He told RecordSport: “I thought that VAR decision was correct. My first thought was that Hatate went down far too easily. He’s waiting for contact. If I’m wrong then I’ll apologise. But for me it’s trying to buy a penalty and the referee has bought it as I thought he would. My heart sank and then VAR overturned it. But that’s far too easy from Hatate, it’s poor.”
McInnes constantly ha a go at Celtic every time he comes up against them. He made zero not of his team’s fortuitous refereeing decision that allowed them to make it 2-1 at Celtic Park.
The bhoys restored their two goal lead through former Killie man Greg Taylor when he bagged his first goal of the season from a corner.
Reo was outstanding on the day! His goal was a brilliant piece of vision which saw him nutmeg a Killie player before making his way to the edge of the box where he slotted it home.
