Pleasing VAR Verdict After Celtic Pittodrie Victory

One pleasing aspect of Celtic’s win over Aberdeen, besides the Hoops overcoming anti-football, was the fact VAR was nowhere to be seen!

In the first month or so of VARs existence it felt like the referees were experimenting with a new toy. While the technology was on standby at Pittodrie, it never needed to be used. By the end of the game, I had even forgot we had VAR in the SPFL.

It’s the way it should be. VAR should be sued to correct pivotal incorrect decisions, but other than that, it should say out of the way.

Celtic overcame a ridiculously defensive Aberdeen side on Saturday who weren’t interested in getting into a game of football until they conceded late on. Despite the resistance from the home side, Callum McGregor bagged the all important goal to maintain Celtic’s nine-point least atop the SPFL.

We have a lot of festive fixtures coming up. Two home games against Livingston and St Johnstone followed by two away days at Easer Road and Ibrox. We hope VAR doesn’t become a story in any of these games, but it’s hard to see a scenario where the referees won’t over lean on the technology during the Glasgow Derby. The officials will be petrified of making a mistake.
