CHRIS SUTTON has branded no away fans at derbies is ‘petty’ and ‘shameful’ as we approach the Glasgow derby this weekend.
Speaking on the Record Podcast, the former Celtic striker spoke about having that 6k backing when he played at Ibrox and vice versa.
In the Scottish media, they’ve tried to play it off as a tit for tat situation. Sutton got straight to the heart of rhe issue by saying it’s The Rangers that have to sort this out.
It all comes down to the Ibrox club. They cut Celtic’s allocation years ago when Celtic’s dominance meant there were regular full stand parties at Ibrox among the Hoops support. Since then, Celtic’s 800 briefs for Ibrox has become untenable due to the shocking behaviour of some in the Ibrox crowd who have injured and attempted to hurt Celtic fans underneath them while in the top tier.
After shameful scenes of another Celtic fan being injured at the last Ibrox derby, Celtic made it clear the status quo can’t remain. They spoke to the Ibrox club and asked to reinstate the original allocation or Celtic wouldn’t be taking up their small allocation due to valid safety concerns. The request was was met by a firm ‘no’ from the League Cup runners up.
Celtic declined their small allocation and as a consequence The Rangers decided to decline their allocation for Celtic. Let’s be clear, Celtic have NOT banned away fans from Celtic Park on Saturday, their own club has decided not to take the tickets.
Chris Sutton thinks it’s a bad look for Scottish football and it needs to be addressed.
