PETER LAWWELL stepped down as Celtic CEO at the end of June. An official statement to the stock exchange confirmed the step down so Dominic McKay could take over the day to day running of the club.
Alarm bells have been raised when documents lodged at companies house this week confirmed Peter Lawwell onto a non-plc board at the club.
A Celtic spokesperson has made it clear to CeltsArehere.com there’s absolutely nothing in it and Peter will not have any
‘The ECA board position requires an official club association – thus he is going onto the CFaC board. This board doesn’t have anything to do with the day to day running on the club. But Peter being on the ECA board is huge for the club and for Scottish football.’
What is the ECA?
A body representing the interests of professional association football clubs in UEFA. The organisation was brought into existence in 2008 to replace the G14. There are 232 clubs under the ECA umbrella.
Peter has served as an Executive Board Member of ECA since March 2014, has been a member of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee since 2015 and was elected as one of ECA’s four representatives on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council in August 2017.
We imagine Peter will still have ties to the club until he sees out his board duties with the ECA.
Dominic McKay took over the club from July 1st onwards. The club is going through major upheaval and overhaul with McKay looking to modernise every department of the club over his tenure.
We’ve already seen job listings go up for many roles within the club; including the social media and marketing department but also analytics.
