Peter Lawwell Opens Talks Over Celtic Star’s New Deal

SCOTT BROWN has discussed his Celtic future after Neil Lennon’s departure this week.

The Celtic captain has months left on his current Celtic deal and right now there’s no sign of him signing a new one.

Brown has told CelticTV he has already had preliminary talks with Peter Lawwell, with the outgoing CEO leaving the decision up to Scott if he stays beyond this summer after opening talks with the Hoops man.

“I am not 100 per cent sure. I just take it one game at a time and go with the flow.

“I spoke to Peter about the situation a couple of days ago.

“He says it is completely and utterly up to myself whether I want to stay or go into a coaching role.

“As it stands right now, I am here to support John Kennedy. I’ll try to help the lads as much as I possibly can and see what happens.

“I will see if I am still playing and take it from there at the end of the season. I’ve got a lot of time to sit down and think about it over the summer.

“A new manager might come in and see me just turning 36 and think I’m not going to be part of it.

“But I’m big and old enough to take that on the chin. Me and Peter will maybe work something out before that happens.”

It’s a sensitive issue, if you ask me, I think Scott Brown thinks he still has a year or two left in him playing first team football. The catch is, he will not get a lot of game time at Celtic regardless of who does come in.

There are merits to keeping him at the club as a coach and to help the younger players in the squad but that might not be what’s best for the Celtic captain at this moment in time.

There’s just no telling who will be here next season at this rate. It does all depend on who comes into the club. For that reason, it’s imperative Celtic look to lock up a deal for their new manager as quickly as possible.

If players like brown are in limbo, they will leave before the new man has a chance to have his say.
