Peter Grant had Celtic fans in stitches during his appearance on Celtic TV this afternoon, thanks to a cheeky comment about guards of honour – or rather, the lack of one at Ibrox last weekend.
Just before today’s match kicked off at Celtic Park, the Hibernian players formed a guard of honour to applaud the newly-crowned champions onto the pitch. It was a classy show of respect from the Edinburgh side, something that stood in stark contrast to Rangers’ decision not to do the same at Ibrox just last weekend.

Naturally, the difference in approach has sparked plenty of chat among fans – would Celtic have returned the favour if the situation was reversed? Peter Grant gave his take, and as always, he didn’t hold back.

Speaking on Celtic TV, the former midfielder said: “I’d do it for Hibs – no problem at all. But nobody else. That’s for sure.”
The remark instantly had host Gerry McCulloch bursting into laughter, and Grant kept the mood light as he continued.
“To be honest, I said the same last week,” he added. “I wouldn’t expect Celtic to do it if it was the other way around either. That’s just the way it is.”
It was a brilliant moment that summed up the mood at Celtic Park – a day of celebration, with a bit of humour thrown in. Grant’s comments were clearly tongue-in-cheek, but they also spoke to the reality of the rivalry in Scottish football.

While Hibs’ gesture was appreciated, it highlighted Rangers’ choice not to do the same. No surprise there, really, but it hasn’t gone unnoticed by supporters.
At the end of the day, Celtic got their guard of honour from a team with a bit of class. The players came out to a round of applause, and Peter Grant made sure there were laughs before a ball was even kicked.
