English champions City are one of the best sides in the world and boast some big names in their ranks for this one. Although it is their maiden game of pre-season, the likes of Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish have travelled to the USA and will feature.

Previously, Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic have proved arduous opposition for Pep Guardiola’s City; the last time the sides met was in the 2016/17 season when they couldn’t be separated over two Champions League group stage games.

Ahead of tonight’s match, which kicks off at midnight in the UK, Guardiola was asked what his aims are.

“No injuries, no injuries… that would be a big success”, he said (Football Scotland).

“We don’t come here to leave the four trophies, we come here to refresh what we are and especially 80 to 85 per cent of the team is from the young academy players who have to play.

“Experience would be good, of course against Rangers and Celtic, Celtic and Rangers of Scotland. They’re top teams.”

Celtic are much further ahead in their preparations for the new season than City.

This, combined with the English side’s lack of first-teamers, will make the clash an intriguing one.
