Paulo Bernardo Transfer Latest; Celtic in Wise Talks

As the summer commences, the attention of Brendan Rodgers and Celtic turns to strengthening the squad for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

In the past, the Scottish champions have had vast success by signing loanees permanently such as Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Odsonne Edouard. The next player who may fall into such a category is Paulo Bernardo.

The Portuguese midfielder joined the Hoops from Benfica last year and in his spell in Glasgow, made an impactful mark.

At 22 years of age, Bernardo still has room for growth and would be a solid permanent addition to Rodgers’ squad.

Included in the loan deal which brought Bernardo to Scotland was a buy option which, according to Sky Sports man Anthony Joseph, stands at £6.5m.

Joseph, though, says that talks are taking place between Celtic and Benfica over lowering the said fee. Doing so would be a shrewd yet wise move from the club.

Bernardo is said to be keen on signing for the Hoops long-term after being told he has no place at his boyhood team back home.

Doing a deal to sign the Portuguese under-21 captain appears simpler than signing his fellow loanee Adam Idah and if the right fee can be agreed upon, we may well see the double-winner don green and white next season.
