The Bhoys were made to work for the three points in the Highlands, Ronan Hale’s first-half penalty causing distress in the visiting camp.

Brendan Rodgers’ men eventually kept their cool, though, and upped their game in the second half to come back to Glasgow unscathed.

Somewhat fortunately, Alistair Johnston drew the Celts level via his hip before some German efficiency from Nicolas Kuhn gave the Bhoys a sought-after lead.

Celtic were poor in the first half but looked re-energised in the second after boss Rodgers made a raft of changes.

Luke McCowan added a sense of desire that was missing in the opening 45, while Kyogo’s movement caused headaches for County’s defence.

Paulo Bernardo was equally impactful in the middle of the park and did some tidy work near Celtic’s own corner flag to win the ball back and get the team up the park for their go-ahead goal.

He took to Instagram post-match, captioning a photo of himself with ‘Tough game but we got the three points’, recognising the elite standards at the club and echoing most fans’ views:

Celtic’s £3.5m acquisition of Bernardo was arguably one of their most astute pieces of business of the summer.

The 22-year-old is getting better each week and proving to be a more than adept option in the engine room.
