Opinion: Why Easter Road Could Be A Good Opportunity For Postecoglou And Co To Bounce Back

Over the years, travelling to face Hibs at Easter Road has synonymously been a tough task for many Celtic sides, including for former bosses Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon, who couldn’t get the job done in Leith, whilst in league action.

However, this Celtic side managed to get that record off its back, with a victory in the capital back in October, in a 3-1 victory over Jack Ross’ side, which included one of the best first-half performances of the season that we have seen under Ange.

It has certainly been a rollercoaster journey since that night at Easter Road, which has seen the Hoops lift the first piece of silverware of the campaign and also push themselves to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, on Thursday evening, we suffered massive disappointment to the hands of Bodo/Glimt, who eliminated the Hoops over two legs in comfortable fashion – particularly during the win this midweek.

It is always difficult, no matter the result or performance, to return to league action off the back of a European away game, and travelling to Easter Road is also no easy task, as we have seen plenty of times in the past.

But, in my opinion, it could be a good chance for this Celtic side to bounce back, and here is why.

Since the arrival of Shaun Maloney in Decemeber, the former Celtic man has been attempting to change the fortunes of his new side, including their playstyle, which has now seen him pick up three victories in a row, coming into this weekend’s game.

As we know by now, Postecoglou and his side will look to play expansive, attacking football at all times, and if Maloney chooses to play his usual football, which seems likely, it could potentially play into our hands, rather than coming up against a team who would look to be hard to beat, sitting deep defensively.

Of course, Celtic will still need to be at the top of their game in order to pick up the three points and certainly cannot be complacent, no matter who the opposition is. Despite the good victory at this venue last time out, it remains a tough place to go.

But, with several first-team stars also coming off the back of a rest midweek, we can hopefully see the Celtic frontline fully firing, with the intent to bounce back from a disappointing result in Europe.
