Opinion: The Celtic Winger Who Deserves Lazio Start

There has been lots of talk over the past few weeks about the third spot in Celtic’s frontline. Of course, Japanese duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda will rarely be dropped and are first-choice options in the lineup. That leaves a third spot open, however.

Over the course of the season thus far, manager Brendan Rodgers has looked to give several players the opportunity. In each of the last three games, all of Luis Palma, James Forrest, and Yang have got the nod.

Forrest started away at Livingston but was hooked half an hour in due to Joe Hart’s injury. He then came on against Motherwell but failed to capture the imagination, similar to Yang, who started the match.

Away at Feyenoord, Palma began but wasn’t majorly impressive. When he came on against the Steelmen recently, however, he was. The Honduran played just 13 minutes from the bench but made a drastic impact, indeed scoring the opener with three minutes to go.

He has been the most impressive of the wing trio of late and due to this, deserves a start against Lazio. The 23-year-old could begin to gain some real momentum if he comes up trumps on Wednesday night as he looks to establish himself in Brendan Rodgers’ first-choice eleven.
