Opinion: Sky Sports Negative Celtic Narrative Ramps Up

Former Celtic defender and Ross County manager John Hughes has urged Celtic to give their Glasgow rivals a guard of honour in just over a week.

The Glasgow Derby is currently still scheduled to take place next Sunday and with nothing really to talk about Sky Sports have been pushing this narrative of a guard of honour. Why exactly are they asking the Ross County manager about this?

Let’s be clear, since Rangers entered this league back in 2016, Celtic have won four titles and not been given one guard of honour by this club. Our reward for our success was having our allocation stripped at Ibrox because of the constant party atmosphere inside their ground on a regular basis.

We can’t see where Hughes is coming from at all. Respect is a two way street and we’ve had none from the other half of Glasgow. There’s no doubt Celtic haven’t been at the races and they never deserved to win this title, but ‘taking our medicine’ is admitting that to ourselves and knowing we as a club need to do better.

In all honesty, it’s just a narrative being used by the media to bridge the gap between the lull of no fixtures this weekend and next weekend.
