Former Sky Sports man David Tanner has indulged in a bit of wishful thinking this afternoon when he spoke about the play-off scenario on social media.
This is a scenario where UEFA would allow scope for less games to be played in a play-ff style format with different sections of the league fighting for different things inside their own tournament.
This has been brought up because there’re are leagues in Italy and Holland where there’s only goal difference or a point in the top two. This is where such a scenario could work.
However, Tanner goes into if this would be good for the SPFL and Liverpool, putting that format on the table for both sides of the border.
In an agenda-setting @talkSPORT interview, ex-SPFL CEO Roger Mitchell told me that UEFA signed-off on play-offs for leagues.
Now Lazio want that.
Should they do that in the UK?
Hearts v Hamilton? Hearts v Inverness? Partick Th v QOS? Partick v Falkirk? Celtic v… Liverpool v…— David Tanner (@DavidTannerTV) April 27, 2020
On what planet would Liverpool and Celtic agree to such a scenario when they are miles ahead of the pack and before the shut down were comfortable closing in on the title?
It’s like the wee guy who brought the ball to play football down the park getting beat 6-0 just before the final whistle then declaring next goal’s the winner.
It’s ludicrous to even suggest that would be an option for both FA’s north and south of the border.
