Opinion: It’s Time to Bring Fraser Forster Home for Good

Fraser Forster is approaching the final year of his Southampton deal. The goalkeeper clearly not going to get the game time he craves at St Mary’s.

He left Celtic after his loan deal last season and went down to try and fight for a position but more importantly, pick up his large wage packet. Some fans will see that as being a mercenary, yet the same people in his position would find it difficult to turn their nose up at the cash he’s on as Southampton.

Footballers careers are fleeting and while trophies and success should always be the goal, making as much money as you can before early retirement is not just a good idea, it’s vital.

That’s why I believe Celtic should be doing everything they can this summer to bring Fraser Forster back to the club to see out his career.

Yes, he still has one lucrative year left of his deal but there’s less money on the table for the Englishman to lose. Many deals consist of a percentage of the players wage being paid to them in a lump sum on the way out.

There’s little hope or confidence in Celtic’s stoppers at the minute. Barkas has been woeful, Bain is a decent second choice goalkeeper and Hazard needs a loan deal where he gets a full season under his belt.

Fraser was inspired during the nine in a row season. If you look at this season, there’s no doubt he would have saved us from losing as many points as we have.

This shot popping up on my timeline only further making my case for why Celtic should move for the goalkeeper.

Some people have hurt feelings he didn’t come back this season but he decided to do what was best for him. Don’t pretend there’s not more guys in our dressing room who would happily do that in the same position.

It’s time to get back to winning and a goalkeeper of Fraser’s quality is a big piece of the puzzle.
