Opinion: Celtic’s Transfer Boost from Hearts Civil War

Hearts have hard 5pm deadline on Monday to accept cuts to their wages if the club is to proceed in the same direction. If not, civil war could break out at Tynecastle and the struggling club might be in for a long summer.

It’s being reported by SunSport this morning that some Hearts players will only agree to a wage cut if they are allowed to leave for nothing in the summer if there’s sufficient interest in them. Ann Budge clearly not wanting to allow her sellable assets to walk out the door for nothing has been fighting back against that notion – but where will this end up?

With the threat of relegation hanging over the club, many players are seeking an out.

How does this affect Celtic?

It has been widely reported and cited by SunSport the club are keen to bring their former youth player Aaron Hickey back into the fold. If Aaron is one of the players insisting on the transfer clause this summer, it could mean the club could pick the player up for nothing. Barring that, Ann Budge might feel selling some of her wantaway stars for a reasonable price to give her club some breathing space – it could also work in Celtic’s favour.

Celtic are keeping tabs on the Hearts talent Aaron Hickey

Hickey is an ambitious young player who was not content to sit at Celtic playing under games. His move away was vindicated when he made the Hearts first team and has been attracting interest from many clubs.

The sort of drive and ambition from a young player is great to see. However, knowing full well he would likely not be first choice left-back straight away at Celtic – could that deter home from making the move?
