As reported over the Easter Weekend Eddie Howe has “agreed in principle” to become the new manager of Celtic.

It’s is a remarkable appointment for the club, one I thought wasn’t going to happen but delighted it has.

The news first emerged from SunSport on Friday night. An “exclusive” article leaked from the tabloid stated that the club and Eddie Howe had agreed that the ex-cherries manager would take charge of Celtic next season.

The same report claimed one of our potential first signings under the new manager could be Steve Cook. Cook was at Bournemouth with Howe and is out of contract this summer.

It was also reported that the defender could become Celtic’s next captain replacing the outgoing Scott Brown as the leader of the dressing room.

I wouldn’t be too keen on the signing of Cook. Aged 29, Cook would have no sell on value and most likely not improve as a player.

Celtic should stick to the transfer policy that is proven and has worked best over the past couple of years – buying young players for small fees and selling on for large profits.

Similar to Moussa Dembele, Jeremie Frimpong and most likely Kristoffer Ajer who is linked with a big-money move away from Celtic this summer.

I strongly believe that Celtic should carry out the same transfer policy in this upcoming window. As good as some of Howe’s players were under his previous management at Bournemouth.

Celtic can’t offer these ageing footballers a chance to play ahead of the top young talents available during this summer transfer window despite the short term benefits.
