Opinion: Celtic January Transfer Decision Looks to Have Backfired

Not all loan deals can be a success but when Celtic announced Lee O’Connor was heading out to Partick Thistle for the rest of the season, there was real hope the man who made his full Ireland debut at the back end of last year would get some much-needed experience.

However, it appears O’Connor has fell victim to Partick Thistle’s poor form this year.

The club are last in the Championship and are favourites to be relegated out of the league this season.

Since O’Connor has come in he’s started four games with the club not winning any of them. The past two games, the Celtic defender has been benched by Thistle in the last two games against Dundee Utd and Dunfermline but the club have only managed two draws.

O’Connor came from Manchester Utd at the start of the season with many in the know Man Utd supporters shocked the player was allowed to move.

Now, in mid-March, he finds himself bottom of the Championship table with Thistle and on the bench. Hopefully this will not kill Lee’s confidence and Celtic can rehabilitate him in the summer.
