Opinion: Ange’s Big Call in Denmark; Will He Drop Stand Out?

The squad is threadbare at the moment.

There’s not a lot to discuss about who could and should play because frankly we don’t have the personnel at present.

We’re running on fumes going into this season – we will shortly be joined by Carl Starfelt and Kyogo Furuhashi – giving us some respite.

When it comes to the game this evening in Denmark, the bhoys will have to do it against the odds.

There’s only one real position which I see up for grabs this evening and there’s an argument for both players to start; right wing.

James Forrest has been playing catch up for fitness and missed the first leg of the tie because he had to isolate during pre-season after becoming a close contact.

Liel Abada came in last week and was quickly thrown into the deep end against Midtjylland because of it. The Israeli winger had a dream debut when he scored to put Celtic into the lead and generally looked dangerous from the wide area.

His game was cut short when his compatriot, Nir Bitton, decided to go into business for himself when he was sent off for a ludicrous altercation with an opposition player.

Abada has earned the right to start in Denmark, BUT Ange Postecoglou is very aware of how young and inexperienced some of his current side is; will he be tempted to start James Forrest?

The Scottish international has so much experience at this level – it could be tempting to bring him back into the fold and maybe bring on Liel later in the night.
