Ooops: Celtic Fans Accidentally Cut Off Sky Sports

Celtic’s title party at Rugby Park took an unexpected turn when celebratory flares from the stands burned through Sky Sports’ broadcast wires, causing technical difficulties during the live coverage.

The Hoops secured their third consecutive league title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock, needing only a point to clinch the championship. As Celtic celebrated their 12th league trophy in 13 years, the jubilant atmosphere spilled over into a spectacular pyro display by the fans.

Sky Sports was on hand to capture the post-match reactions, pulling in manager Brendan Rodgers for an instant interview. However, viewers at home experienced a two-minute audio blackout as the broadcast microphones failed to pick up any sound. Host Eilidh Barbour struggled to make Rodgers’ comments audible over the deafening cheers of the Celtic supporters.

The issue was eventually resolved, with Barbour explaining the cause of the disruption. Displaying images of the damaged wires, she noted, “Flares and TV broadcasts don’t mix well. One of the flares burnt through our sound wires, which is why we couldn’t hear Brendan Rodgers initially.”

After the technical glitch was fixed, Rodgers expressed his pride and satisfaction with the team’s performance. He told Sky Sports, “There has been a lot of negativity around them this season, going back to August. But they’ve stayed with it, kept believing, and the players have come back strong. Their performance under pressure in the last couple of months has been fantastic. I am very proud of them and happy for the supporters.”

Looking ahead, Celtic fans can anticipate a trophy day celebration on Saturday, followed by the Scottish Cup final the next weekend. The Hoops will face Rangers in a bid to secure a domestic double.
