Liam Scales continues to go from strength to strength each week. Once again versus Kilmarnock, the Irishman was ample in his performance.
At the heart of the Hoops’ defence, Scales was utterly solid, and his manager Brendan Rodgers revealed how pleased he was with him post-match. He said (BBC Radio Scotland via Glasgow Times): “He was outstanding and I am so happy for him. He is probably one of the biggest surprises for me in my career as a coach and only because I had not seen him play so much and there were other players ahead of him.”

Few would have expected Scales to improve as much as he has. He has come to the fore for his team at a time of need, and his boss believes he has developed significantly: “Through one leaving and one being injured, I have seen enough in training to give him an opportunity. You ideally want a left-sided centre-back in your team who has good pace and intelligence and he has all of that. You can see in his performances that he has really grown as a player and I am so happy for him because there is a big focus on the Irish players when they come here but he has been outstanding.”
It seems as though the 25-year-old will keep his place in the champions’ team as long his form continues to be of a high level. Cameron Carter-Vickers has recently come back to fitness, but the former Shamrock Rovers man has proceeded to start, something he will likely do for the foreseeable.
