One Game At A Time – Defender Insists Focus Is On European Tie

Celtic defender Carl Starfelt has stated that Ange Postecoglou’s squad is focusing on one game at a time, with a huge few days coming up for the Hoops.

As quoted by the club’s official website, speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s tie against AZ Alkmaar, the Swedish defender insisted the squad’s current sole focus is on getting through what could be another tough tie tomorrow evening.

“It is a big week coming up for us, and we’re fully focused on tomorrow and getting a good result.

“It will be a very tough game because it’s a good side we’re facing. We’re going in there with confidence, but we still know it’s going to be a very tough game, so all focus is on that right now.

“We need to be on our toes from the beginning of the game, and we need to play a very good match to get through. I knew before we met AZ that they’re a very good side, so I don’t think there were any big surprises, but they showed when they came here that they’re a good team.

“We got a good result against a very strong team, so that’s also good to show you can perform against teams in Europe as well. It’s very important at a club like Celtic to be able to do that, so that was also a confidence boost for us.”

Since arriving at the club in the last month or so, Starfelt has been settling into life as a Celtic player.

At times, some believe he has looked shaky, but he has grown into his role in the side in recent games, which has also earned him a call-up to the Sweden National side for their World Cup qualifiers next month.

Tomorrow night is another huge test for this Celtic side, as we take a 2-0 lead into the tie.

It is good to hear that the squad’s sole focus is on one game at a time, rather than looking towards future fixtures as we face what could potentially be a season-defining week at the early stages of this campaign.
