Oldco’s Cheating – Let’s move on

Let’s move on is something you’re going to hear a lot from certain corners of Scottish fitbaw over the next wee while.

The notion that Celtic fans and the rest of Scottish football should just bite their tongue and ignore the FACT Rangers Football Club 2012 (God rest their souls) were found guilty of cheating from the highest court in the land is something that should be met with derision.

There’s a misconceived notion out there that this latest call for title stripping is just Celtic fans looking for another broom to hit Rangers over the head with in a tit for tat sort of way and should hold no merit in the real world. This is where the ‘let’s move onners’ will ultimately fall down.

The appetite that they tell us isn’t there for retrospective action on arguably the biggest form of systemic and prolonged cheating in British football history is very much there, whether they like to admit it or not.

This isn’t just a Celtic issue, this argument holds true for the rest of Scottish football although I fear some fans of other teams view this just like the ‘let’s move on’ crew and are leaving Celtic to shout in the dark.

This issue isn’t just about the past but the future of our game, what sort of message are we sending out to any club in the land about cheating if this goes unpunished? The suits at the SFA are basically inviting clubs to try their luck because if you do get caught cheating, we’ll just move on guys.

The misguided fools that also cry that the punishment handed down to the oldco came in the form of a fresh start in division three for the new club, pah! While the indignity of having to start again is some sort of cosmic punishment for the financial misgivings and cheatings of an institution that the ‘peepel’ thought was too big to fail was not a punishment. Oldco has never really been taken to task on the cheating they inflicted on our game for years. In fact, they were given special priority in order to get their new entity into the Scottish game.

Scottish governing bodies have hidden behind lawyers, a flimsy inquiry and so much inaccurate and inept reporting it had to be on purpose. The supreme court ruling has come after years of evidence and appeals. As one reporter happily pointed out – EBTs are not illegal, however, Oldco Rangers use of them was very much illegal.

So, where is the uproar from a governing body that banned Craig Whyte from football even those since he has been exonerated by the courts? Where is the moral outrage when supreme court lay it all on the table? They cheated Scottish football for so many years and instead of reopening the case we are greeted by a ‘move on, there’s nothing to see here’ statement by the SFA.

An outsider to Scottish football might think, why?

Well, because if they were to do so it would be the Scottish football version of a turkey voting for Christmas as far as the Regan and Doncaster go. These two men along with many other suits positions would quickly become untenable if we were to sift through the ashes of this complete and utter debacle.

You have two types of oldco Rangers fans at the moment on social media – the ones barking out excuses, abuse and generally trying to deflect while the other ones seem to have some sense of pride that they managed to con Scottish football and get to keep the trophies.

The supreme court verdict has given many a second wind in the fight to strip the titles from oldco. Celtic issued a statement and the public outrage grows.

The contempt shown by the ‘let’s move on’ lackeys to the honest men and woman who ploughed money into the Scottish game over the EBT years is risible.

Personally, if the title’s ever are stripped, the best thing to do would be to strike them from the record. The majority of fans we’ve spoken to have no desire to claim the titles and trophies for their own. They want the record book to reflect that when they were paying good money to support their club, cheats ultimately didn’t prosper.

Then let’s move on…
