Odsonne Edouard Reveals The Key Reason He Chose To Leave PSG For Celtic

Former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has given one of the key reasons he initially joined the club. Signed on an initial loan deal from PSG, Edouard went on to greatly succeed in Glasgow.

In four years with the Bhoys, the Frenchman scored 88 goals in 179 appearances. He also won countless trophies at Parkhead before eventually getting his Premier League move to Crystal Palace in 2021.

The centre-forward has recently revealed why he initially came to Celtic, though. The year before Edouard left behind Paris, he was on loan at Toulouse.

When he returned from there, he was eager to challenge the PSG first team, although several new attackers were signed. Due to this, he gave up hope and moved to Celtic. He said (Crystal Palace via Glasgow Times): “When I returned to the club, the coach told me that he was not counting on me because he had recruited Hatem Ben Arfa and Jesé in attack, more experienced players. So I decided to try my luck elsewhere, which is how I signed for Celtic FC.”

It will be disappointing for the now 25-year-old that he didn’t make it at his boyhood club. His career since departing PSG, however, hasn’t been the worst.

Particularly at Celtic, Edouard was able to rack up several medals and gain vast experience. He is now playing at the top level down South in what has been a respectable career to date.
