Celtic Nygren Signing Timeline

Celtic are closing in on what looks like a savvy piece of summer business, with Sweden’s Benjamin Nygren on the cusp of officially becoming a Hoops player.

Our Substack revealed that personal terms were being discussed two weeks ago, and at the weekend Fabrizio Romano delivered the coveted “here we go” – the deal is done €1.5 million fee agreed with FC Nordsjælland and Nygren has reportedly signed on until June 2029, with an option over a further year.

The versatile attacker – equally adept on the wing, in a No. 10 role, or playing deeper in a midfield three – brings the kind of creative spark Celtic sorely missed this past season.

Celtic Nygren Timeline

On Monday night’s Superscoreboard, journalist Roger Hannah provided fresh insight into the timing of the announcement. Speaking at around 12:45 in the podcast, he said: “Well, Nygren, really, really flexible player… comes with a really good reputation… contract’s down to the last six months… my understanding is Andrew, everything’s more or less done. He’s coming in on a four‑year contract and it will be announced possibly after the 1st of July.”

That timeline makes sense: the transfer window officially opens on July 1, so Celtic can now process the registration and unveil Nygren formally, bypassing any mid-June grey areas.

From a strategic standpoint, this is a shrewd business move. While Celtic’s creativity sometimes hit a lull last season, Nygren’s 16 goals in 32 matches from Nordsjælland show he can deliver end product, and from multiple positions.

The fee is modest thanks to Nygren’s contract expiring this December, but what the deal lacks in headline splash, it more than compensates for in low risk and high potential. Four-year deal gives Rodgers time to integrate him properly.

The signing fits with Celtic’s broader summer blueprint: rebuilding and refreshing their squad to match their ambitions domestically and in Europe. Expect Nygren to compete with Jota, Kuhn and others for creative spots, offering Rodgers a tantalising tactical option.

In short, Celtic fans should ready themselves for an early July announcement. The buzz is building – fashionable, affordable, and potent recruitment in one neat package.
