If newspapers still used pens to write their news stories, David Provan would use a sword. On a weekend he seems to be on a mission to slay whoever annoyed him the most during the week. Most of the time that relates to a wrong score or a red card (remember them?).
With the world of football upside down Provan has set his sights on Neil Doncaster and this week we can sit back with folded arms and enjoy.
The ex-Celts piece in The Sun starts with Doncaster and moves its way down south like a deadly python, you should read the whole piece if you are in one of those humours. But with regards to Doncaster here is what the former player had to say:
“SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster has a simple relationship with Uefa. When the men in Nyon say, “Jump!”, Doncaster asks, “How high?”.
“You can bet that was Doncaster’s intention. Even more when Belgium set the precedent by declaring Club Bruges as Pro League champions.”
“With the null and void route never an option, crowning Celtic would have brought him some grief, but nothing he couldn’t have handled. Legal threats from Rangers and Hearts could safely have been ignored.”
The only two clubs that don’t want a decision made based on current positions are Hearts and of course Rangers. The rest of the clubs in the SPFL get to stay afloat if the season can be finished now and a cash flow from TV and season books can come in.
