‘Not Half As Good As He Thinks He Is’ – Pundit Hits Out At Kristoffer Ajer

Former Celtic player and Sky Sports pundit Davie Provan has hit out at outgoing defender Kristoffer Ajer, saying that he is ‘not half as good as he thinks he is’.

Writing in his column for Sun Sport, Provan admitted he wasn’t too disappointed to see the Norweigan defender depart for around £13.5 million, claiming he has moved to ‘minnows’ Brentford.

“Can’t say I was unhappy to see Kristoffer Ajer leave Celtic.

“Getting £13.5 million for a player who’s not half as good as he thinks he is, is good business.

“For all the talk of a move to AC Milan, the best Ajer could get was a deal with Premier League minnows Brentford.

“Of his new signing, Bees boss Thomas Frank says: “He can help us in both boxes. As a defender, he has the physicality you need.”

“Obviously, Frank didn’t see Ajer duck out of the way when Alfredo Morelos blasted past Scott Bain at Ibrox last May.”

Despite the money in the Ajer dealing being better than most fans probably would have expected with the 23-year old coming into the final year of his contract, this seems like a harsh take from Provan.

Last seasons performances were far from ideal, and Ajer was actually seen as one of the better performers in a disastrous campaign.

The defender has also spent several years with the club, in successful sides, contributing to many trophies along the way.

To some fans, they may dislike a player as soon as they leave the club. However, from a personal point of view, I wish Ajer all the best in his career. With the talent he has, there is a chance we could see him at a higher level further down the line.
