Kieran Tierney has been continually linked with a return to Celtic this summer. The Scottish left back is out of favour at Arsenal and Brendan Rodgers’ return to Glasgow has only added further fuel to the fire regarding a transfer.
In terms of a move, the financial side of it has long been discussed as a stumbling block. Tierney will be on astronomical wages compared to what the Scottish champions can offer. Due to this, a loan deal has been mentioned as a possibility.
Indeed former Hoops’ gaffer Neil Lennon believes Tierney needs out of North London. He said [PLZ Soccer]: “He’s a quality player. When he’s fit and firing he’s one of the best in Britain. So at this stage in his career, I think he needs to go and play somewhere else.”
Although he said Tierney should be leaving Arsenal, Lennon claimed that a move to Celtic would be near-on impossible. The treble winning player and manager said: “Even if he were to come [to Celtic] on loan you’re talking Arsenal will demand a £10 million loan fee. That’s just not going to happen.”
Unfortunately for Celtic, a Tierney return is somewhat of a pipe dream. The champions do seem to be in the market for a left back due to recent reported interest in Quentin Merlin but a move for the Scotland left back is drastically unrealistic.
The 26-year-old will in all likelihood leave Mikel Arteta’s side this summer but his destination won’t be Glasgow’s east end.
