The Scottish Professional Football League has decided not to follow the lead of the English Premier League in banning bookmakers from sponsoring club shirts.

This means that Celtic will not have to terminate their lucrative sponsorship agreement with Dafabet.
The EPL voted to end all gambling firms from having their branding on the front of club shirts from the 2025–26 season, although sleeve and trackside advertising will still be permitted.
The EPL decision was made due to a government crackdown on current gambling legislation, and although the English football league has chosen not to implement the policy, the SPFL has also ruled out introducing a similar one.
A spokesperson for the SPFL told the Daily Record that there are “no plans” to follow the decision that was taken down south on Thursday.
“For many SPFL clubs, sponsorship from gambling companies is a significant source of income which helps to support their business models and enables investment in many of the important community activities which clubs undertake. Individual sponsorships are a matter for each club and there are no plans for a league-wide proscription of such deals.”
It’s believed that Celtic’s deal with Dafabet is worth about £2.5 million per season, with the betting company handing out bonuses based on performances and European success.
There are many fans who would like to see the club move away from gambling sponsors.
