It has been confirmed that there will be no minute’s silence before Celtic take on Shakhtar Donetsk this evening in Warsaw.
It had been revealed yesterday that UEFA were enforcing black armbands and moments of silence to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
However, it has been revealed today following a routine pre-match meeting between the two clubs and the governing body that there will be no pause before the game kicks off.
There is yet to be a decision made whether players will wear black armbands this evening but Shakhtar have been granted permission to display anti-war messaging on screens in Warsaw.
This will be the first time the Ukrainian side host a Champions League match in Poland due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. They have been displaced since 2014 but this will be the first time they have played outside of Ukraine.
The protocol in the UK to mark the Monarch’s passing is different to that of teams playing away from home.
There is to be no pre-match Champions League anthem with there being huge amounts of disruption to games taking place due to policing shortages across the UK.
Scottish clubs will be allowed to decided whether they mark the Queen’s passing this weekend with there being a number of available options.
