Brendan Rodgers has firmly shut down any speculation that he could walk away from Celtic early, insisting there is “absolutely no chance” of him quitting before the end of his contract.
With Champions League qualification hanging in the balance and frustrations mounting over a lack of summer signings, some fans had begun to wonder if the manager might consider an early exit if ambitions weren’t matched from above. But Rodgers made it crystal clear: he’s not going anywhere.
Rodgers was asked directly about concerns from supporters that he might walk away before the season is out by STV’s Ronnie Charters in Friday’s press conference. He cut the question off sharply.
“No chance. Absolutely no chance. No chance! We’ve done that one before. It didn’t go down well! So, no, no, listen, I said from the first day, and there’s no hidden messages, and there’s no this and that. I said I’d be here for three years. I’m here for three years.” [Sky Sports]
Rodgers’ comments come at a tense moment, with Celtic fans voicing their displeasure at the board during Wednesday’s goalless draw with Kairat Almaty and growing increasingly anxious about the club’s activity in the transfer market.
The manager has made no secret of his desire for quality additions to the squad, particularly after key departures and injuries. But despite the mounting pressure, Rodgers remains committed to the job and the long-term project.
