No Bid: Club’s Sporting Director Addresses Celtic Interest

Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg has addressed suggestions that Celtic have bid for winger Bazoumana Toure.

The Hoops have been widely linked to the Ivorian, and recent reports suggested that a potential offer was imminent.

Hjelmberg, though, disappointed any Hoops fans who were hoping for some January transfer activity, outlining how he hasn’t heard about a bid from the Bhoys: “There is nothing there,” he said (RecordSport).

“I read today that Celtic were going to make a bid… it sounded exciting. But nothing has reached me.”

Despite no bid in play for Toure as of yet, Celtic’s need to sign a winger this month is apparent.

The Scottish Premiership champions are heavily reliant on Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn, who, between them, have netted 30 goals across all competitions in 2024/25.

With James Forrest still out injured, the only backup for the pair is either Yang Hyun-jun or Luis Palma: uninspiring, to say the least.

Bringing in a new winger has to be high on Brendan Rodgers’ to-do list this month as the Hoops continue to progress both domestically and in Europe. The manager’s primary focus will be keeping things on the park running smoothly, although potential reinforcements must be on his mind as the heavy fixture schedule continues.

Indeed, the Celts have nine games alone in January, so beefing up the squad sooner rather than later wouldn’t be the worst idea.
