This morning, many fans were surprised to wake up and read the comments of former Celtic boss Neil Lennon.
Speaking to the Times, the Northern Irishman spoke out in-depth for really the first time since his departure back in February.
Many wouldn’t have been sure what to expect from these comments, but some were likely surprised to see the attack on Hoops fans from the former player and boss.
Lennon claimed that some supporters had an ‘unhealthy obsession’ with winning 10 in a row.
“It was definitely a situation like no other. You’re going for the tenth title in a row and that was an obsession for the fans, an unhealthy obsession I felt. And we were in the midst of a pandemic where nothing was normal.”
There is no doubt that expectations were sky high, looking back to last summer.
But at a club like Celtic, that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Winning trophy and creating history is what fans love to see, and this is exactly what that was.
A chance to create even more history in the modern era, winning out 10th title in a row.
Going off Lennons quotes, it seems that we shouldn’t have had those expectations. But as someone who has done many interviews in the past, there have been points where he has bigged up the idea of lifting the 10.
In one particular interview, which @LK95_ picked up on Twitter, he described it to Celtic TV as ‘momentous’ and a ‘once in a lifetime’ sort of opportunity.

Some of the scenes we seen at times last season, of course, weren’t great and shouldn’t have happened.
However, to claim that some fans had an ‘unhealthy obsession’ with lifting the 10 simply isn’t true. It’s about wanting to see our club make even more history.
And there was a time when the support would have wanted nothing more than to see Lennon himself lift that. Ultimately though, these comments come at a strange time.
