Reading this headline after the weekend’s defeat to Kilmarnock might have reached for some to think ‘Aye, good’.
Rodgers has bemoaned the number of players in his current squad, the Irishman believes he has quantity over quality and is trying to weed out players who are no longer worth anything to Celtic on the field.
Celtic are facing their first real crisis under Brendan Rodgers after a woeful recruitment process in the summer, followed up by an absolutely dismal start to the SPFL season.
The club must now endeavour to do everything possible come January to make sure Rodgers gets players in that will make a massive difference to the team
However, who could be on their way out as soon as January, who looks most likely to sit here until their deal ends, and who will get a new deal?
Mikael Lustig – Great Celtic servant but has he done anything to warrant a new deal?
Dedryck Boyata – Our best defender but looks unlikely to sign a new deal.
Scott Allan – So far out the door already he’d need a matchday ticket to get into Celtic Park
Emilio Izaguirre – Signed for cover and playing a new deal by ear.
Cristian Gamboa – Rodgers signed him but just doesn’t fancy him at all.
James Forrest* – Expected to sign a new deal but all quiet right now.
Scott Brown* – This is a slam dunk, he will sign before not too long.
Ryan Christie – Right now, he shouldn’t be offered a deal.
Dorus de Vries – Picking up a wage doing absolutely nothing. Gone.
That’s nine players, three players you would maybe hope to keep with only one or maybe two going to happen.
These are mostly squad players but the loss of Dedryk Boyata will be felt if we sell him in January.
