LEE NAYLOR was a guest on The Huddle Podcast on Tuesday afternoon.
The show is hosted by another former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson who regularly gets old Celtic teammates on and at least one journalist to talk about the latest goings-on at Celtic.
Lee Naylor was an interesting guest, the former Celtic star is now a football agent.
He gave us all some insight into his dealings with Celtic at the start of this season and echoed many peoples assertion that Neil Lennon wasn’t a man in charge of much at Celtic in his final year.
The Irishman left his post in February but he did seem detached from things at the club from a very early stage in the season.
Speaking about the club, Lee Naylor confirmed he spoke to Celtic about two players, although he wouldn’t give any names:
“I’ve become a football agent, for me it’s literally looking through players, recruiting players and trying to move them.” Naylor revealed.
Asked if he had spoke to celtic about any of the players on his books, Lee replied:
“I put a few in at the beginning of the season but no takers
“There was a central midfielder and a striker, they were top players, they would have fitted in well”
Wilson probed further and asked who lee spoke to at the club.
“It was Nicky Hammond at the time [who rejected the players]
“I don’t know if Lenny had much of a say, to be honest, especially this season and I think you could tell”
It would’ve been interesting to hear who the players were. Celtic’s recruitment in the summer was atrocious in hindsight but at the time many lauded the club for their transfer dealings.
Hammond has since left the club and a new structure is being put in place to refine the recruitment process so we don’t continue to bring in duds, or players who aren’t suited to play for the Hoops.
