New Celtic Star Opens Up on Best Position

LIAM SCALES signed for the club last week and is set to start his Celtic adventure in the coming weeks after the international break.

Liam was brought in from Shamrock Rovers and goes straight into the pool of players Ange will have at his disposal when the domestic game resumes.

The defender has played quite a few positions in his young career so far. It’s meant Celtic fans can’t quite place his role in the team yet.

After speaking to the Celtic Website, we’re still uncertain where Ange sees the Irishman.

Asked what his best position is, we get the feeling it’s centre back, but he’s not ruling out playing on the left for Celtic.

“Over the years I’ve played in plenty of positions. I suppose when I was younger I was a left-sided midfielder and I kind of dropped back.

“At UCD I played mainly as a centre-back and I played a bit of left-back there as well, and in my first season at Shamrock Rovers I played centre-back. But with injuries to players this season I was put out left and I did quite well.

“So I suppose I’m a versatile left-sided defender and I can play anywhere between the three positions – centre-back, left wing-back, left-back – as long as I’m playing, I’m happy.”

The left-back position could be a role Scales challenges for in the coming weeks.

Cameron Carter-Vickers late signing on deadline day gives Celtic another choice at centre-back. Along with Welsh, Starfelt and Jullien on his road back, Scales could find himself out there.
