New Celtic signing Marco Tilio disclosed that he had no direct communication with Ange Postecoglou before his move to the club this summer.
The Australian winger’s transfer was a long-drawn process, leading many to speculate that Postecoglou, given his A-League roots, would have taken a keen interest in Tilio’s recruitment. However, the reality was quite different.
Tilio, at his first press conference with Celtic’s Youtube channel, clarified that the club’s management had been monitoring his progress, not Postecoglou. The latter, who has since moved on to manage Spurs, had no direct involvement in Tilio’s signing.
“I never spoke to Ange, but I know I’ve spoken to the club for a number of years now,” Tilio revealed. “They’ve had a plan tracked for me, and I think now with a new gaffer coming in, I spoke to him before I signed, and he had a great plan for me and for the club and I just wanted to be a part of that.”
Tilio’s focus has always been on the game itself, not the politics and negotiations that often surround player transfers. He admits to not knowing much about the behind-the-scenes dealings, preferring instead to concentrate on his performance on the pitch.
“For me, it’s always been about just playing football and doing what I can control and that’s performing on the field. All these other things outside of football I’ve never really thought about it. I just try to perform on the field and let everyone else deal with the outside stuff,” he said.
Tilio’s journey to Celtic began three years ago when he moved to Melbourne City. His goal was always to make it to Europe, and now that he’s here, he’s eager to seize the opportunity and make his mark.
“Since I moved to Melbourne City three years ago it was my goal to get over to Europe and here I am with an opportunity that’s presented itself and I just can’t wait to get started,” Tilio expressed, brimming with anticipation.
