New Aberdeen Manager Reveals Gustaf Lagerbielke Chats

Jimmy Thelin was officially unveiled as Aberdeen’s new manager earlier in the week, the Swedish boss joining the Dons on a three-year contract.

Previously of Elfsborg, Thelin worked with Celtic centre-half Gustaf Lagerbielke at the club and was his boss when he was named the Allsvenskan’s defender of the year for 2023.

Already since moving to Scotland, the 46-year-old has spoken to Lagerbielke as he looked to get an inside insight into the Premiership. Carl Starfelt was also consulted.

“I talked with Gustaf Lagerbielke who, of course, I had at Elfsborg”, said Thelin (RecordSport).

“We would look at the football when Henrik Larsson and Johan Mjallby played, Carl Starfelt, I know a little bit also from when he played in Gothenburg.

“Also this guy here Fran who worked with us on individual development. He knew Starfelt quite well also so we irked up some information about the league and what we have to be aware of.”

With Lagerbielke looking like he is not in Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the forthcoming season, one can only assume he will depart Celtic this summer.

Whether the 24-year-old leaves permanently or on loan remains to be seen, but transferring to the Northeast could be a realistic option.

Liam Scales had a successful temporary spell at Pittodrie before going on to star for Celtic, and perhaps Lagerbielke could follow in his footsteps and reunite with his old gaffer.
