Former Bayern Munich midfielder and World Cup winner Lothar Matthäus was highly critical of Vincent Kompany’s side after their 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday night.
Despite a 0-0 draw against second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich remain eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

However, the match has attracted criticism in Germany due to Bayern’s lacklustre attacking performance. The team managed only two shots throughout the game, failing to register a single shot on target.
This marks the first time since their 1-0 loss to VfL Wolfsburg on May 17, 2008, that Bayern has failed to record a shot on target in a Bundesliga match.
It is also only the second instance since the 2004-05 season that Bayern has not registered a shot on target in a Bundesliga game.
Matthäus was not holding back in how bad he believes the performance was, but he did see positives in the end result for Bayern’s league title hopes.
He said: (Sky Sports), “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life from a Bayern Munich team. They didn’t have a single chance to score.
“But despite that, they will be very satisfied because they got the result they came for. Bayer Leverkusen had previously scored plenty of goals from the positions they got into, but they had no luck out there.
“But having said that – that’s the result that will win Bayern the title. Bayern Munich ‘won’ 0-0. And that’s the end of the Bundesliga race.”

Not exactly the seal of approval from Matthäus. There are positives and negatives from the game for Bayern.
Bayern didn’t register a shot on target, however, despite Leverkusen dominating possession at home, they still weren’t able to score.
Brendan Rodgers will be hopeful that Celtic can not only stop Bayern from scoring but also find the back of the net themselves.
For Celtic, it is there to go and win the game; however, no one will be under any illusions about the daunting task of going to the Allianz.
But with the impressive last 20 minutes of the game at Celtic Park, the Hoops know exactly the approach needed to secure a place in the last 16.
