NEIL LENNON has taken a hard stance on the Green Brigade’s latest ban from Celtic Park by insisting the club had to take action.
The Irishman was speaking at the club’s AGM on Wednesday afternoon when the subject of the fans group came up.
Their tickets have been cancelled for the Rennes game on Thursday night after the club took action against the supporters for their part in bringing UEFA charges to our door.
When Peter Lawwell told shareholders they have had half a million pound in fines over the years, Neil Lennon spoke up:
“It’s fair to say we could have bought a player for that amount of money. It’s all going to UEFA.” he told shareholders as cited by RecordSport.
“The club have taken this action now. We’re hoping it will be a deterrent for that sort of behaviour, but not for them coming into the ground.
“It’s not ideal, but there are rules and regulations the club has to adhere to. Health and safety and so on. We’re all hoping this will be a short-term thing.”
Whether you like the GB or not, you can’t lay every single charge ta their door and the recent one of illicit banners and chanting against a club who have strong links to fascism should not be seen as bad thing.
If the board at Celtic don’t believe our club should stand up to such irrational hatred then there’s a big problem.
As for the pyro, the ultras should look to hols back on this until clubs, not just Celtic, can get dialogue with UEFA over introducing a form of pyro into our game which can be seen as safe.
