Former Celtic manager and midfielder Neil Lennon is targetting former teammate Mark Fotheringham for the role of assistant manager at new club Omonia Nicosia.
After being out of work after leaving Parkhead last February, it was announced yesterday that the 50-year old would be taking up the surprise role with the side based in Cyprus, and Lennon is now looking to lay the groundwork with his new club.
According to a report from Sun Sport, with options being suggested in the last few days, Lennon is targeting another of his former teammates from his Celtic days, in Mark Fotheringham, as he looks to add to his backroom staff.
Fotheringham is, of course, a name not all Celtic supporters will be familiar with, given that he only made a handful of appearances under Kenny Dalglish and Martin O’Neill, whilst also holding the record for the club’s youngest ever play at one stage after coming through the academy.
However, there is a reasoning behind Lennon looking to bring him to Nicosia, with his previous knowledge of the league in Cyprus, having spent some time there during his career.
The report also suggests that it is not currently a done deal, and Lennon could yet look to other options, including former captain Scott Brown after his latest announcement this afternoon.
But, if it was to go through, it would certainly be a sensible move as he prepares for his first venture back into management since last season.
