NEIL LENNON has come out swinging, 102 days after his Celtic dismissal.
The Irishman branded the scenes outside Celtic Park after the cup game as ‘sad’. There were idiots that took it too far, but there was a majority of well meaning fans who were there to ask for change.
“That was the first cup defeat in 35/36 games. It was the end of an unbelievable cycle of success and for them to be treated that way was bewildering. They should have been lauded for it rather than abused. They were getting pelted with missiles. It was very sad.” Lennon told THE TIMES.
“There was a new breed of supporters that I had nothing in common with and who belie the values of the club. They are the ones that are giving the club a bad name.”
Neil Lennon’s comments on the Ross County cup defeat are very disingenuous.
The unrest outside the ground shouldn’t be condoned by the few who took it too far. However, it wasn’t just crashing out the cup that sent fans out to protest the manager and the board – it was the entire picture unfolding in front of the Celtic support and their desperate plea to correct course.
Neil Lennon’s leadership last season was a disaster, there’s no getting away from it.
If he wants to shine a light on a few thugs to make himself feel better then I don’t know what to say.
The former Celtic manager had lost control of the situation before the Ross County cup defeat but his stubbornness and unwillingness to step aside did cost us in the end.
