NEIL LENNON has commented on the latest Celtic UEFA charge which will see the club be punished for the third time this season by the European governing body.
The bhoys were charged with illicit chanting and banners during the 2-1 against Lazio in the Europa League in October. The banners had an anti-fascist sentiment on the night but that doesn’t matter to UEFA who may just be pulling Celtic up for the use of strong language on one particular banner.
Asked by Sportsound and cited by SunSport – Neil Lennon believes it’s not doing the reputation of the club any good and there’s now a buildup of animosity between Celtic and Lazio supporters ahead of the reverse fixture.
“It’s accumulating and it’s not doing the reputation of the club any good.
“If fans are going out there next week, I hope they come back safe and be careful.
“Because there seems to be a build up of animosity between both sets of fans, certainly not both the clubs, over the last couple of days.
“We just want them to enjoy the occasion, hopefully see us put on a good performance and get back to Glasgow safe and sound.”
Celtic head to Rome next week where they will hope to give the Italian’s a run for their money in their own backyard. There are around 9,000 Celtic fans heading over for the game and we’re hoping things go off without a hitch.
Lazio fans have previous for trouble with away supports in Rome, Celtic fans must be vigilant.
