Neil Lennon Planning Celtic Summer Rebuild

NEIL LENNON’s record this season has been abysmal. There have been calls for the Irishman to step aside since September last year but the board have stuck by him, even as things have deteriorated badly. It’s got to the stage Celtic will more than likely finish more than twenty points behind first place.

After the loss against St Mirren, their first win at Parkhead in over three decades, Neil Lennon still shows no signs of stepping aside. The Celtic manager even said this summer will be exciting to do a rebuild with the nucleus of a young squad.

“I made my frustrations clear after that Ferencvaros game and I don’t think things have changed much since then.” Lennon admitted to RecordSport.

“Has that been part of the problem this season? I would say it’s been one of the elements, yeah.

“There will be a rebuild of some capacity here. Players coming to the end of their contracts may be looking to move on and the club may be looking to move them on.

“Obviously, loan players will be going back. Whether we investigate loaning them again is a discussion for the summer.

“But there will be changes in the squad, there’s no question about that. We’re forward planning
now, absolutely.

“The work is ongoing and it will be prominent again in the summer when we’re looking to bring players in.

“We have already sold a player for a lot of money in Frimpong because we felt it was a good deal for the club. We have to replace him now.

“The only thing that concerns me is how the market is in the summer.

“January has been very quiet and you’re worried it might be the same because we don’t know how financially strong clubs are going to be – or even how our own position is going to look then.

“In terms of rebuilding the squad, that’s always an exciting project for me, to bring in new blood and give the squad that extra impetus and freshness which is always good for everyone.”

Even the most ardent of Neil Lennon supporters have raised the white flag this season. There’s no way the club will have a substantial uptake in season tickets if a new manager and new vision isn’t installed before renewals come out.

The manager can’t get this team to perform anymore and the St Mirren game is just further evidence that Neil Lennon has to move on.

Celtic fans are looking for leadership but after all these disappointments this season, the club falls silent and hope it blows over.
