Lennon, who gave Welsh his debut at Celtic four years ago, has taken the helm at the Romanian club this week.

Welsh, 24, remains under contract with Celtic, having three years left on his current deal.

He has been the subject of interest from European clubs in the past.

Despite only making 14 appearances for Celtic this season, one of which was in the Champions League, his potential departure could pose a challenge for Celtic. Not only would they be losing a homegrown talent, but his transfer might also impact the club’s adherence to the European quota for homegrown players.

The move by Lennon to target Welsh could be seen as an attempt to bring familiar and reliable talent to Rapid Bucharest, as he did when he was in Cyprus with Omonia.
