Neil Lennon Opens up Over Record Breaking Tierney Deal

NEIL LENNON has opened up about Kieran Tierney’s departure and how it was a natural progression for the defender.

Kieran waved goodbye to the only club he has ever known to join Arsenal in the Premier League. He leaves after coming through the Celtic academy, shining in the first team then becoming Celtic’s record transfer.

It has been a wild ride for Kieran as he now looks to prove to himself and others what he can do at a higher level. Celtic fans have no doubt he has the attributes to go far in the game – some maybe wishing he stayed an extra year or two.

For Lennon, he knows Kieran wouldn’t have walked out the door for any old Premier League club and seen an opportunity to help Arsenal get back to the big time.

“He’s been a brilliant player for us and, obviously, he’ll be a big loss. But you don’t want to stop what you would say is his natural progress.” Lennon told RecordSport.

“He wouldn’t have left us for some of those clubs mentioned. It’s more about his football ambition as well as financial.

“The opportunity may never come again. The kid has lofty ambitions and the next step for him is to play in the Premier League.

“We want to keep making Celtic an attractive proposition for any player and we feel we are making steps in the right direction on that.

“If we can get into the Champions League, then we become a very attractive proposition for a lot of players.”

For Celtic, it’s all about replacing the player and strengthening the squad with the money from his transfer fee. Celtic have three weeks in which to do this, but will they manage to get all the players Neil Lennon would like?
