Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been invited to take in the Romanian derby between Rapid Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest as part of Rapid’s efforts to convince him to become their new head coach.

This invitation comes as Rapid Bucharest seeks leadership for their rebuilding efforts, aiming to claim their first title in over two decades.
Lennon, who has been without a managerial role since his departure from Omonia Nicosia in 2022, is considered Rapid Bucharest’s top choice after plans to hire veteran coach Mircea Lucescu fell through.
Rapid’s owner, Dan Sucu, has reportedly offered a two-year contract offer to Lennon, with an annual salary of £750,000, according to reports in Romania via The Sun. The deal also stipulates that Lennon would retain Bogdan Lobonț, the current caretaker manager, as part of his coaching staff.
Lennon had successful spells at Celtic where he secured multiple Scottish Premiership titles and domestic cups, as well as a Championship title with Hibernian.
He will also likely be linked with a return to Easter Road after Nick Montgomery was sacked on Tuesday morning.
