Neil Lennon Explains Leigh Griffiths Absence

Neil Lennon has explained the absence of striker Leigh Griffiths from the Hamilton squad on Sunday. There has been much made of the player’s status at the club since he was left out of the France trip in pre-season.

However, Neil Lennon has been very positive since Leigh got his head down and worked hard on his fitness. The striker got an unexpected outing against Hibernian in a friendly at Celtic Park and many thought he’d make the bench for the Hamilton game.

The Celtic manager was happy to clarify Leigh’s absence from the side, and as it turns out, he would’ve been in the squad had it not been for an injury.

“He [Griffiths] would’ve been in the squad, but he rolled his ankle yesterday. He’s going to do a little bit of rehab over the next couple of days, but he should be okay for next weekend.” Lennon told BBC Scotland.

Celtic have Killie next week before a trip to Paisley in nine days. It will be good to see Leigh get back in the side and it gives Neil Lennon an option of going 3-5-2.
